Salvia x Westerae

This is a hybrid of S. orbignaei x S. haenkei collected in Bolivia. There are several hybrids of these species, and they all appear to be more floriferous than the species. This particular hybrid which I photographed in Europe is quite stunning, and flowers year-round. An untidy, sprawling plant..could be great grown amongst other shrubs to prevent flopping all over the place. The flower colour is really beautiful, better than either parent. Its hardiness is borderline, but it does set a few seeds, and cuttings can be over-wintered.
